Petrochemical Sector Notified as DC under PAT Scheme

The Central Government, in consultation with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (e) of Section 14 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 (52 of 2001), has notified twelve energy intensive industries as Designated Consumers under PAT Scheme.

PAT Cycle-I was envisaged to reduce the Specific Energy Consumption in eight sectors viz. Aluminium, Cement, Chlor- Alkali, Fertilizer, Iron & Steel, Paper & Pulp, Thermal Power Plant and Textile.

PAT cycle- II was widened – to include new sectors and deepened – to incorporate new DCs from the existing sectors. For PAT Cycle –II three new sectors viz. Railways, Refineries and DISCOMs were notified.

The Central Government via S.O. 3600(E), dated 15th Nov, 2017 has further widened the PAT scheme by including Petrochemical units having Gas Crackers or Naphtha Crackers or both and having energy consumption of 1,00,000 metric tonne of oil equivalent per year and above as Designated Consumer.
