Air Compressors

Air Compressors & Energy Efficient Technologies

What is an air compressor?

An air compressor is an equipment which converts power into potential energy. It is an equipment which forces an increased quantity of air in a tank to be utilized later. As the pressure in the tank increases, the compressor shuts down. Once the air is utilized the compressor starts again and starts filling the tank again.

The energy contained in the compressed air can be used for a variety of applications, utilizing the kinetic energy of the air as it is released, and the tank depressurizes.

Air compressors use – Air compressors are used in a variety of industries from supplying process air requirements, to operating pneumatic tools, and daily applications like filling tires.

Air compressors account for a significant amount of electricity used in an industry. Only 10 – 30% of energy reaches the point of end-use, and balance 70 – 90% of the energy of the power of the prime mover being converted to unusable heat energy and a lesser extent lost in form of friction, misuse, and noise.
